Video Skills

Programmatic video with Remotion: React components rendered to MP4 rather than to an interface. Reach for these when the deliverable is a video file. Motion inside a running UI belongs in design instead.

Start here

  • $remotion-best-practices: the router for the rest of this family. Open it first when you know the work is Remotion but not which piece you need; it also carries the conventions the other skills assume.
  • $remotion-docs: search the Remotion documentation for an API or option. Use it for a specific lookup, not to decide an approach.

Building a video

SkillPick it whenAvoid it when
$remotion-createStarting a new Remotion video or scaffolding a composition. The project exists and you are editing its content.
$remotion-markupWriting the content, animation, and effects inside a composition. You need the surrounding project set up first.
$remotion-captionsTranscribing audio, then displaying or animating captions.Text is static and already known; that is ordinary markup.
$remotion-mapsAnimating maps in a video.Narrow to map scenes only.
$remotion-multimediaWorking with Mediabunny for audio and video manipulation. You only need to place an existing asset on the timeline.
$remotion-interactivityStructuring markup so the composition responds to input rather than only rendering. The output is a plain rendered file.

Shipping

SkillPick it whenAvoid it when
$remotion-renderExporting a composition to a video file, locally or on a server.Still iterating on the composition's content.
$remotion-saasBuilding an application around Remotion rather than a single video. You want one video, not a product.
$remotion-upgradeMoving Remotion and its related packages to a newer version.Nothing is on an old version.

Remotion skills describe one library. They will not help you choose between Remotion and a different video approach — that decision comes first, and belongs to whoever owns the project.
